Job description
About Us
At NHS Golden Jubilee University National Hospital, we’re proud to play a key role in supporting NHS Scotland by delivering high-quality, person-centred care. As a modern, national facility with state-of-the-art clinical services and specialist teams, we help ensure patients across Scotland receive timely, safe and effective treatment.
We are currently recruiting for a Research Fellow to join our Department of Orthopaedics, offering an exciting opportunity for qualified doctors at any stage of training in orthopaedic surgery who are looking to develop their research experience within an established research environment.
About the Role
As a Research Fellow, you will be actively involved in the planning, design, organisation, delivery, analysis and dissemination of musculoskeletal-related research. This will include opportunities to undertake self-selected projects as well as projects allocated by the Orthopaedic Research Team.
The unit has established academic links with the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde and the University of Glasgow, offering opportunities to participate in both clinical and laboratory-based research projects, with the potential to register for a higher degree. The hospital also has a state-of-the-art motion analysis laboratory available for research purposes.
Alongside your research responsibilities, the post will include regular clinical duties. Key responsibilities and opportunities include:
- Contributing to the 1 in 7 daytime ward rota
- Contributing to the 1 in 12 Hospital at Night rota
- Attending orthopaedic elective theatre lists
- Working alongside high-volume surgeons within one of the largest lower limb arthroplasty centres in the UK
- Planning, designing, organising and delivering musculoskeletal research
- Analysing research findings and supporting their dissemination
- Participating in self-selected and Orthopaedic Research Team allocated projects
The post is offered on a fixed-term basis for 12 months initially, with a planned start date of August 2027, and may be extended for up to 36 months where appropriate.
Fellows undertaking the post during Higher Surgical Training may be able to have the role recognised as Out of Programme Research (OOPR) with retention of their NTN. Please note that this post is not educationally approved.
About You
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated candidates who:
- Are qualified doctors with an interest in orthopaedic surgery
- Have a strong interest in musculoskeletal research
- Are keen to develop their knowledge and experience within an established research environment
- Can contribute effectively to both research activity and clinical duties
- Are motivated to work collaboratively with the Orthopaedic Research Team and wider clinical and academic colleagues
You will have an enthusiastic and proactive approach, with a genuine interest in developing your research experience while contributing positively to the clinical work of the Department of Orthopaedics.
If you’re interested in joining our team and developing your clinical and research experience within NHS Golden Jubilee University National Hospital, we would love to hear from you.
