The successful candidate will work under the local supervision of Dr. Yves Longtin at the Jewish

infectious diseases clinical trials team led by Drs. Emily McDonald and Todd Lee.
The initial portfolio will include major Canadian multicentre clinical trials addressing
Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia (SNAP), recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection (STOP-CDI)
and Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (SPIRIT-PCP). Additional infectious diseases clinical trials
may be added to the portfolio over time.
This is a clinical research position and does not require nursing licensure. The current studies
do not require the Research Assistant to perform blood draws or other nursing procedures.
Key Responsibilities
The Clinical Research Assistant will support the day-to-day conduct of clinical trials at the Jewish
General Hospital, including:
- Screening hospitalized patients for study eligibility using clinical records and study-
specific eligibility criteria;
- Communicating regularly with infectious diseases physicians, treating teams, nursing
staff and the central research team to identify potentially eligible participants;
- Approaching eligible patients and/or their legally authorized representatives regarding
research participation;
- Conducting the informed-consent process in accordance with study protocols, Research
Ethics Board requirements and Good Clinical Practice;
- Recognizing situations in which a patient's capacity to consent may be uncertain or may
change, and escalating these situations appropriately to the study investigator/research
team;
- Enrolling and randomizing eligible participants according to study procedures;
- Collecting study data from participants and medical records and entering data
accurately into electronic research databases, including REDCap;
- Completing participant follow-up and maintaining accurate study documentation and
screening/enrolment logs;
- Working with the local investigator and central coordinating teams to resolve study
queries and ensure protocol adherence;
- Supporting Research Ethics Board submissions, amendments, renewals and essential
regulatory documentation as required;
- Participating in regular research meetings with the JGH and broader McGill clinical trials
teams; and
- Developing expertise across multiple pragmatic infectious diseases clinical trials and
taking on additional studies as the research program grows.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- A bachelor's degree in a health-related, biological, epidemiological or other relevant
field; candidates with a DEC and substantial relevant clinical research experience may
also be considered;
- Previous experience in clinical research, clinical trials, patient recruitment or a hospital
environment is strongly preferred;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort approaching hospitalized patients and
families;
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage several studies
simultaneously;
- Ability to work independently while functioning effectively within a multidisciplinary
clinical and research team;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Functional proficiency in both French and English, given the need to communicate with
research participants and clinical teams;
- Familiarity with REDCap or other clinical research databases is an asset;
- Previous training in Good Clinical Practice, TCPS 2 and/or Health Canada Division 5 is an
asset; required training can be completed after hiring where appropriate.
The Research Environment

conducting pragmatic, practice-changing infectious diseases research across Canada and
internationally. The successful candidate will work closely with investigators, research
