Job description
Location: United Kingdom
Applicants must already be based in the UK and hold an existing right to work in the UK.
The role
NEUVIOR Pharmaceuticals Ltd is seeking a Pharmacology and Formulation Scientist to connect experimental drug activity with compound properties, exposure, and formulation performance.
You will design and interpret pharmacology studies, investigate factors that influence reliable compound testing, and help identify practical ways to improve experimental performance. The role suits a scientist who can combine laboratory evidence with quantitative judgement and communicate effectively across biological, chemical, and analytical disciplines.
Key responsibilities
- Design and perform studies of concentration response, treatment duration, potency, selectivity, and recovery after compound removal.
- Develop and qualify pharmacology assays, including appropriate positive, negative, vehicle, and interference controls.
- Assess compound handling, solubility, stability, compatibility, and formulation performance under relevant experimental conditions.
- Distinguish changes in biological activity from differences in exposure, compound degradation, precipitation, or assay interference.
- Integrate pharmacology results with analytical and drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics data.
- Work with chemistry and analytical colleagues to investigate compound liabilities and prioritise improvements.
- Prepare clear study plans, protocols, technical reports, and recommendations supported by the evidence.
- Maintain accurate records of compound identity, batch, preparation, storage, experimental use, and associated results.
Essential experience and skills
- A relevant degree in pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmaceutics, drug discovery, biochemistry, or a related discipline, supported by relevant laboratory experience.
- Practical experience in experimental pharmacology and quantitative analysis of compound activity.
- Working knowledge of preformulation or formulation development, including solubility, stability, and compatibility.
- An understanding of how concentration, exposure time, protein binding, and compound properties affect experimental interpretation.
- Experience designing controlled experiments and identifying sources of variability or misleading results.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and technical-writing skills.
- The ability to work effectively with scientists from different disciplines and manage several connected experimental tasks.
Desirable qualifications and experience
- A PhD in a relevant discipline, or equivalent research or industry experience.
- Hands-on experience developing formulations for small molecules.
- Experience interpreting pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic relationships.
- Familiarity with bioanalytical techniques, including liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.
- Experience investigating target engagement, mechanism of action, metabolites, or off-target activity.
- Experience transferring methods between laboratories and reviewing externally generated data.
