Job description

About SonicPrecision

Every year, more than 100,000 patients in the US and Europe undergo catheter ablation for ventricular tachycardia, a heart rhythm disorder that can be fatal. Most procedures happen without real-time tissue feedback: the electrophysiologist burns the tissue, ends the procedure, and hopes that the created lesion has reached the source of the arrhythmia. Published one-year recurrence rates run as high as 50%, which is the clinical gap we are closing.

SonicPrecision is changing that. We built a near-field ultrasound sensor into the tip of the ablation catheter. The sensor shows the electrophysiologist what happens inside the tissue while the procedure is still running. For the first time, the physician can confirm that a lesion is deep enough before ending the procedure.

We are a Philips spin-out, based in Eindhoven, with an exclusive, worldwide licence to the relevant Philips patent families. Our pre-clinical programme runs in partnership with CARIM at Maastricht University. Our next milestone is First-in-Human: the very first use of the device in patients.

The role

We are looking for a Clinical Engineer / Clinical Scientist to build and execute our clinical evidence strategy. This is a junior to mid-level role for someone with a clinical, biomedical, or life sciences background who wants to work across cardiology, medical device development, and regulatory science. You work directly with the founders and the R&D team: you build our clinical evidence, build relationships with leading electrophysiologists, and turn clinical insights into product and regulatory requirements.

You will:

  • Execute and update the clinical evidence roadmap: study design, publication strategy, and reports, from pre-clinical validation through First-in-Human and approval
  • Help design and run pre-clinical studies with CARIM / Maastricht University Medical Centre (MUMC+): protocols, data collection, and endpoints
  • Contribute to the Clinical Evaluation Report (CER) and Clinical Investigation Plan (CIP) for First-in-Human, working with our regulatory advisors on CE marking under the EU MDR and FDA approval for a Class III device
  • Build our clinical network: find and engage senior electrophysiologists (KOLs) who can act as trial investigators, advisory board members, and early adopters
  • Represent SonicPrecision at scientific conferences (ESC, HRS, Europace, EHRA) and contribute to abstracts and posters
  • Turn clinical insights and physician feedback into clear product requirements, together with the engineering team
  • Follow the literature and new technologies in catheter ablation (VT, AF, PFA, RF, cryoablation, contact force, mapping) and feed what matters into our product strategy and evidence plan

What we are looking for

  • Education: Master’s or PhD in biomedical engineering, clinical sciences, medicine, or a related life sciences discipline; a background in (interventional) cardiology, electrophysiology, or medical devices is a strong advantage
  • Experience: 1-3 years; we do consider recent graduates with a strong clinical or MedTech graduation project
  • Clinical knowledge: Familiarity with cardiac electrophysiology, catheter ablation, or interventional cardiology, from clinical research, an internship, or a graduation project
  • Regulatory awareness: Basic understanding of EU MDR, clinical evaluation processes, or GCP/ISO 14155 is beneficial; willingness to build expertise in this area is essential
  • Communication: Able to write clearly and present confidently to clinicians, regulators, and investors. Fluent in English.
  • Mindset: Structured, curious, and comfortable in a small team where not everything is organised yet; you take ownership and ask for help early when you need it
  • Travel: Able and willing to travel occasionally

What we offer

  • You define, execute and update the clinical strategy of a new medical device from day one
  • Stock Appreciation Rights: you share in the equity upside of the company you help build
  • Direct collaboration with the founders (CEO with 24 years in ultrasound and medical devices at Philips, CPO with 20 years in clinical research and product development at Philips and Medtronic) and our System Engineer
  • Access to a strong clinical research environment through our CARIM / MUMC+ partnership, and to the HighTechXL venture builder
  • Competitive salary aligned with your experience level, and participation in international scientific conferences
  • Room to grow: a yearly personal development budget, weekly one-on-ones with the CPO, and a role that grows with the company
  • A flat, small, international team, flexible hours, and a 40-hour week in which results count, not hours logged

Practical details

  • Location: Eindhoven, mostly on site; about one day a week from home
  • Contract: Full-time; one-year contract to start, with the clear intention to extend
  • Start date: Q1 2027, or sooner by mutual agreement
  • Application deadline: 1 November 2026; we review applications on a rolling basis
  • Right to work: You must already have the right to work in the Netherlands; we are not able to act as a recognised sponsor at this stage

Apply with your CV and a short motivation letter. Half a page is enough: tell us why this problem interests you and what clinical or research experience you bring. Questions first? Contact René Aarnink (CEO) at rene@sonicprecision.us or Joanneke Groen (CPO) at joanneke@sonicprecision.us.
