This position can be based in Switzerland (Eysins), Germany (Bad Homburg) or Spain (Madrid).

Job Purpose

Transform, elevate, and lead Global Medical Affairs into a core strategic department in driving portfolio selection and therapeutic area expertise for BU Biopharma competitive success. The role leads the generation of evidence-base medical/scientific input from portfolio screening and asset selection through development, pre-launch, launch and lifecycle management, while enabling access activation, global insight leadership and targeted local execution across priority markets and therapeutic areas.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the evolved Medical Affairs vision, operating model and transformation roadmap, shifting the function from primarily late-stage scientific education to strategic access activation and insight leadership.
  • Support portfolio selection and new-molecule assessment by ensuring timely medical input on therapeutic-area context, clinical relevance, treatment algorithms, competitive disruptors, patient flows, unmet needs and biosimilar opportunity.
  • Build and maintain reusable therapeutic-area scorecards and molecule scorecards that provide non-specialist leadership, portfolio, commercial and market-access stakeholders with rapid, critical and decision-oriented views.
  • Lead the strategic planning of KOL influence mapping (physician/pharmacists/other HCPs) by optimizing global and country specific contribution with targeted local execution, ensuring country activities are focused where Medical Affairs can shape access, adoption and patient impact.
  • Position Medical Affairs activities towards the relevant decision makers adjusting it to each market archetype, including pharmacists, procurement bodies, physicians and KOLs, depending on who drives access and adoption.
  • Establish scalable knowledge, competitive-intelligence and medical-insight operations, including a written knowledge base, AI-assisted synthesis and a structured monthly insight cycle from field and congress activity to global action.
  • Launch and oversee the India SSC Medical Affairs support model to reduce administrative burden, strengthen knowledge management and increase the capacity of global and country experts to focus on strategic priorities.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Commercial, MSP, Market Access, Portfolio, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Safety, R&D leadership and BMT members to integrate Medical Affairs input into brand strategy, portfolio choices and launch readiness.
  • Lead brand and lifecycle medical strategy at global level and ensure appropriate contribution to country execution, including scientific exchange, KOL engagement, congress strategy, insight generation and access-support materials in compliance with applicable standards.
  • Develop, energize and retain a high-performing Medical Affairs organization with the agility, market understanding, transformation mindset and scientific credibility required for the next phase of BU Biopharma growth.
  • Manage the Medical Affairs budget and resource allocation, including travel/congress investment, portfolio support, SSC operations and potential centralization of global/country Medical Affairs cost reporting under the FKSBS R&D P&L, as approved.
  • Define and track transformation KPIs, including scorecard delivery, insight submission quality and cycle time, actionability of insights, priority-country/TA coverage, stakeholder impact, budget discipline and organizational engagement.
  • Act as a credible internal and external ambassador for Fresenius Kabi Medical Affairs, ensuring ethics, compliance, scientific integrity and patient focus in all activities.
  • Strategic Global Medical Affairs leadership in biosimilars or biologics across development, launch and lifecycle.
  • Deep understanding of market access, tender environments, pharmacist/procurement ecosystems, - and country-specific market archetypes.
  • Portfolio and asset-assessment capability, including treatment algorithms, unmet need, patient flow, competitive landscape, disruptors, product positioning and biosimilar opportunity evaluation.
  • Ability to develop TA specific and TA agnostic Medical Affairs capabilities and translate complex medical information into concise, decision-oriented scorecards and executive recommendations.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership across R&D, Commercial, MSP, Market Access, Portfolio, Clinical, Regulatory and Safety stakeholders.
  • Transformation leadership, organizational change management, agile ways of working and ability to challenge legacy Medical Affairs approaches constructively.
  • Medical insight generation, knowledge management, competitive intelligence, digital/AI-enabled synthesis and KPI-driven operational excellence.
  • People leadership, talent development, engagement, communication, stakeholder influence and budget/resource management.
  • Knowledge in several therapeutic areas.
