Job description
Calling all Healthcare Professionals. Help us deliver clinical trials that could change the future of brain health.
We’re looking for an experienced and highly organised Clinical Trials Healthcare Professional to join our clinical research team in Aberdeen.
Location: ONE BioHub in Aberdeen
Hours: Part-time, up to 12 hours over 2-3 mornings
Salary: £30,000 – £45,000 FTE, pro rata, but depending on professional qualifications and experience
This is a varied, hands-on role supporting the delivery of clinical trials, with particular responsibility for unblinded study activities, including the preparation of investigational medicinal products (IMP) and intravenous infusions.
Alongside this, you may support participant visits through phlebotomy, clinical observations and sample processing, while ensuring that every aspect of the trial is delivered safely, accurately and in line with Good Clinical Practice.
The role could be a great fit for a Pharmacy Technician, Registered Nurse, Paramedic, Pharmacist or similarly qualified healthcare professional who enjoys the technical and procedural side of healthcare and would like to develop their experience within clinical research.
Previous clinical trials experience would be fantastic, but it isn’t essential. If you have strong transferable clinical skills, experience of aseptic technique or ANTT, and excellent attention to detail, we’d love to hear from you.
Some of what you’ll be doing
As part of our clinical research team, you’ll:
- Prepare study medication and intravenous infusions in line with study protocols and IMP/pharmacy manuals
- Work as part of the designated unblinded study team, maintaining appropriate separation between blinded and unblinded activities
- Apply aseptic technique and ANTT principles during medication and infusion preparation
- Complete dose calculations and preparation activities within your professional competence and study delegation
- Maintain accurate IMP storage, handling, accountability and traceability records
- Support safe and efficient clinical trial participant visits
- Take and document clinical observations including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height and weight
- Undertake phlebotomy, where trained and competent, or complete training and competency assessment with us
- Process research blood samples, including centrifugation, aliquoting, storage and preparation for shipment
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and inspection-ready study documentation
- Work closely with investigators, research nurses, sponsors and Clinical Research Associates
- Follow study protocols, SOPs, GCP, infection prevention and clinical governance requirements
- Escalate any potential protocol deviations, medication errors or participant safety concerns promptly
Who we’re looking for
You’ll be a qualified and appropriately registered healthcare professional, for example:
- Pharmacy Technician
- Registered Nurse
- Paramedic
- Pharmacist
- Another suitably qualified healthcare professional with relevant clinical experience
You’ll also bring
- Previous experience using aseptic technique and/or ANTT
- Strong attention to detail and confidence following detailed written procedures
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate
- Confidence working with biological samples
- Phlebotomy competency, or a willingness to undertake training and competency assessment
Even better if you have
We’d particularly welcome experience in one or more of the following:
Clinical research or clinical trials
Preparing intravenous medicines or infusions
Working in an aseptic environment
IMP accountability and documentation
Centrifugation, aliquoting and processing research samples
Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
Clinical trial source documentation and sponsor/CRO monitoring
Why join us?
This is a great opportunity to combine your existing healthcare skills with something a little different.
You’ll get exposure to the full clinical trial environment, combining hands-on clinical work, investigational product preparation, sample processing and the quality standards behind regulated research.
It could be an ideal next step if you’re looking to move into clinical research, or if you already have research experience and want a flexible role where your technical clinical skills can make a real contribution.
Most importantly, you’ll be part of a team working to improve how we understand, detect and treat neurological conditions.
Interested? We’d love to hear from you.
If you have the clinical skills we’re looking for but haven’t worked in clinical trials before, please don’t let that put you off applying. Relevant training can be provided.
