Job description

Exciting opportunity to contribute to an innovative oncology development programme within a leading global pharmaceutical company.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Medical Director to join an exciting lung cancer clinical development programme within a leading global pharmaceutical company.

This is an opportunity to bring your medical expertise and scientific judgement to a major pharma environment, working closely with experienced clinical development leaders, senior scientists and cross-functional teams to help advance innovative cancer therapies.

As an embedded member of the sponsor's clinical development team, you will play a key role in the medical oversight of clinical trials, interpreting emerging clinical and safety data and contributing to study-level decisions, protocol development and programme progression.

Combining hands-on medical monitoring with meaningful input into clinical development, this role offers the opportunity to work at the heart of oncology drug development, contribute to important clinical decisions and help progress therapies for patients with significant unmet medical need.

Medical Leadership & Clinical Development

  • Provide medical expertise across lung cancer clinical development programmes, contributing to study design, protocol development and clinical decision-making.
  • Work closely with clinical development leadership, senior scientists and cross-functional colleagues to ensure medical considerations inform study conduct and programme delivery.
  • Apply clinical judgement to emerging study questions, translating scientific evidence into practical clinical decisions.
  • Contribute to clinical development strategy and support the advancement of global oncology development programmes.

Medical Monitoring, Safety & Clinical Documentation

  • Lead medical monitoring activities across ongoing clinical trials, including patient eligibility review, medical query management, safety oversight and protocol-related decisions.
  • Review and interpret clinical, safety and efficacy data, identifying trends and insights to support study-level decisions and benefit–risk assessments.
  • Participate in safety review meetings and collaborate with pharmacovigilance colleagues to support the assessment and escalation of emerging safety signals.
  • Contribute to the development and review of protocols, protocol amendments, clinical study reports, Investigator's Brochures, informed consent forms and other key study documentation.
  • Provide medical guidance to investigators and study teams, supporting high-quality trial conduct and resolution of clinical questions.

Regulatory Affairs & External Scientific Engagement

  • Contribute to regulatory documentation and support Health Authority interactions within global oncology development programmes.
  • Support scientific publications, congress presentations and other external scientific communications.
  • Engage with investigators, external experts and key opinion leaders to support clinical development objectives.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the lung cancer treatment landscape, emerging therapies and evolving standards of care.

Candidate Profile

Essential

  • MD, MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Specialist training in Medical Oncology.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology clinical development, ideally at Medical Director, Clinical Development Physician or Senior Medical Monitor level.
  • Strong experience in lung cancer or thoracic oncology clinical development.
  • Experience supporting Phase I–III oncology clinical trials, including medical monitoring, safety review and clinical data interpretation.
  • Strong understanding of clinical drug development, ICH-GCP and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent scientific communication skills and the ability to work effectively within cross-functional matrix teams.

Desirable

  • Experience contributing to global oncology development programmes.
  • Experience across both early- and late-stage clinical development.
  • Experience with targeted therapies, immuno-oncology agents and/or antibody–drug conjugates (ADCs).
  • Experience supporting regulatory submissions, Health Authority interactions, scientific publications or congress presentations.
